Sasquatch snowshoe series

The Sasquatch Snowshoe series kicked off today with negative temperatures which put a chill on the turn out, but the brave racers who battled the cold all had smiles on their faces as they crossed the finish line. You can't help but smile on such a fun course which wraps around the aspens and pine forests at Grand Targhee Resort. Julie Bryan cruised to the 10K win with a 1:07:31, Spencer Thanye posted a 55:58 for the 5K and Jason Thanye had a 1:54:39 10K .

We look forward to Sunday, January 18th for the next race- The New Years Resolution, so get your buddies and come on up. The course is marked and tracked right now !Thanks to our sponsors- Grand Targhee Resort, Dreamchasers events, Nathan, Crescent Moon.

Targhee Tune UP Nordic Race 12/13/08

Targhee Tune Up Nordic Race Forges On…

It’s true. Nordic racers are truly the most dedicated and “hard core” skiers of all the disciplines. Despite epic winds and fresh powder on the track nearly 60 sixty skiers showed up to give it their all during one of the biggest storms so far this season. Even the classic track was virtually imperceptible despite having been groomed twice prior to the race! Never underestimate the skinny-ski-minded…

Racers from age 7 to 67 took advantage of the opportunity to “Tune Up” their early season Nordic legs during this first race of the season . Skiers chose between 10K, 5K, and 2.5K distances which turned out to be quite the challenge at over 8000 feet of elevation. As always racers who were new to Grand Targhee were amazed by the beauty of our track system. And they were even more amazed that while every other track in the region is suffering from lack of snow, we have had gobs of it!

After the race all the skiers recovered from the rough weather with a warm cup of soup and prizes that were donated by Peaked Sports, Grand Targhee and TVTAP. Good things come to those who persist (including a free Grand Targhee Nordic season pass, Patagonia track gear, free entries into the Teton Ridge Classic, and more!)

Hope you can join us for the Rick’s Basin Rally nordic race held on January 17th—we’ll try to shoot for a little less wind for that race! The Grand Targhee Rick’s Basin Rally is part of the Teton Valley Track Triad which also includes TVTAP’s Teton Ridge Classic and Peaked Sports’ Spud Chase. Race in all three events and you will automatically be entered into a drawing for Nordic ski equipment provided by Peaked Sports.
